Mentoring Social with Society of Janus

Location: Wicked Grounds 289 8th St, San Francisco Cost: Free. Support the cafe by buying food or drink if you can. Dress code: Whatever makes you feel good Description: The Society of Janus (SoJ) offers a mentoring program to help make it easier to find a mentor in the Bay Area kink community. As an extension of the mentoring program, the Society of Janus Mentoring Social meets every third Tuesday of the month to offer a fun, inclusive atmosphere for anyone interested in mentoring to connect, ask questions, offer guidance, and share experiences. Having a good mentor can be a tremendous support in exploring your kinky desires and creating a place for yourself in BDSM community. A mentor can share their experience in walking the road you're just beginning; they can introduce you to good people and groups; they can steer you toward reputable resources for learning the skills you need to realize your passions—and they can be a friend in the exciting (but sometimes overwhelming) world of kink. When you are in a new community, a good mentor can be hard to find!

Who Should Attend

The SoJ Mentoring Social is for anyone who is interested in the idea of mentoring within kinky communities. It’s for people who are looking for a mentor or to become a mentor for someone else. It’s for people who are already in a mentoring relationship and looking for support in doing it well. It can even be a place for a kind of short term, collective mentoring—we welcome your questions and/or concerns about your path in kink.

Agenda

Each social will begin with a short introduction by a member of SoJ’s mentoring program staff. Then everyone will introduce themselves (if they wish), respond to a conversation-starting topic posed by the facilitator, and put out any question they have for the group. After introductions, the group will break into informal conversation, with the facilitator sticking around to maintain the safety of the space—respond to anyone whose question or thoughts about the conversation-starter interested you, or just generally share and receive kinky wisdom from those present.

Mentoring Program

If you're curious about SoJ’s formal mentoring program, we invite you to attend the Social and learn more about it from our program staff. Note: Mentoring is not a dating or play opportunity. A mentor might point you in a good direction for finding the types of play you’re looking for, but it is not their role to play with you themselves. The facilitator will discourage anyone who appears to be using the Social as a place to look or play partners. For questions about the social or the mentoring program in general, contact mentoring@soj.org.
