Class Description:
Discussions of authority exchange and how it "should" be done are often filled with descriptions that are retreaded versions of gender roles from 1950's TV like Father Knows Best. The Dom or Master should be a teacher and mentor who knows best. Does a novice Master know best with a slave who has 20 years of experience? The spiritual Master-slave connection is often based on the Roman Catholic rule that spiritual guidance can only come from the priest (Master) because only the clergy (Masters) can speak with God (know the calling of the slave). Perhaps we can learn from Luther's radical assertion that everyone can talk to God (divine their path and destiny). How might we profit from half a century of feminist insights into the impact of gender training on roles on our authority-exchange relationships, even among same-sex partners? This class proposes the possibility of cooperative, authentic authority exchange.
Master Silver Gryphon has facilitated weekly classes on intimacy and violence in authority-exchange relationships, and will draw upon practices and insights from hundreds of participants over 15 years that support authentic authority exchange without violating self or partner.

Presenter Bio:
In the late 70's, Silver Gryphon (SG) discovered the San Francisco leather community and sought education the only way that was available then, by apprenticing to a gay leather couple. Since then, many others have contributed to his education, notably including several dozen who have served him over the years. He graduated from the Journeyman 3 Academy and has been the HeadMaster of LeatherQuest in San Francisco. He created and has been facilitating HumanAlive for 10 years, a weekly program that supports authenticity in authority-exchange relationships.
