Come learn self suspension principles, safety, simple harnesses and then get in the air with Cali! This is a hands on class, so bring your rope and be ready to practice, practice, practice!
This is a beginner class, so we will go slowly. You don’t have to have a lot of rope experience or have even been suspended before. You are welcome to come with a buddy to help spot you, or a partner to suspend, or just on your own. People of all genders and body types are welcome. Our goal is to get you flying and having fun! The first hour of class will start out with a talk about safety, rope information, tips and tricks for successful flying, and some stretching out. Cali will walk you through some basic ties, harnesses, how to spot someone, and assist with safety procedures.

The second hour of class is our time to get you in the air! This will be a free time for you to practice on your own and get assistance or one on one instruction. You’re welcome and encouraged to bring your own rope, safety scissors/rescue hook, carabineers and straps. We have very limited supplies to lend.

A list of supplies we will be using/ recommended to bring:
• Rope: a lot of it. :)
• 6mm or 8mm hemp is recommended. I use 2x 35ft and 2x 15ft lengths, (it’s totally fine if your lengths are different from mine)
• Carabineers (as many as you have) strength tested 5kn or above (any carabineers that are ‘climbing safe’ are fine)
• A suspension ring (if you have one, they’re expensive, so if you don’t have one that’s totally a-okay!)

What to wear:
This is a physical class, I recommend wearing some kind of exercise clothes/yoga pants/comfy flexible clothing that you don’t mind getting rope fuzzies on. Self suspension is physically challenging, this is essentially a rope-workout for your body. Please bring water, eat food, get a good night’s sleep, prepare your body in whatever way you need to so that you are able to do your best and have fun!

About the presenter:

Cali has been in the Bay Area kink scene since 2012. She fell in love with rope after being suspended for the first time in 2014, and has been self-tying and self-suspending ever since. Cali loves to do dynamic ties while in the air, as well as spinning upside down. She has taught and assisted with several rope classes all over the Bay Area, and preformed demonstrations for several audiences. Cali loves how diverse rope sensations can be, and how individually expressive rope scenes can be. Cali believes in practice, patience, and more practice when learning the ropes.
